CROSS LANES, W.Va. — The only thing better than one win to start the year, is two wins to start the year.

The Ohio Valley Christian volleyball team earned a pair of victories in a season opening tri-match with Covenant Christian and host Cross Lanes Christian, on Tuesday night in Kanawha County.

In the first game between OVCS and CLCS, the Lady Defenders (2-0) fell behind early, as the hosts opened a 14-4 lead. A late rally brought Ohio Valley Christian within two points at 24-22, but the Blue and Gold couldn’t complete the comeback, falling by a 25-22 count.

The second game between the Lady Defenders and Lady Warriors featured 14 ties and six lead changes. Ohio Valley Christian had a lead of 22-16, but a 7-o CLCS run put the hosts back on top. Tied at 27, OVCS scored three of the next four points to take the second game by a 30-28 count.

In the third and deciding game between OVCS and CLCS, the Lady Warriors took an early lead. However, the Lady Defenders took the lead at 10-9 and quickly expanded it to four points. Cross Lanes Christian regained the advantage at 21-19, but the lead was short-lived as OVCS was back on top at 22-21. From that point, Ohio Valley Christian outscored CLCS 3-to-1 to cap off the 25-22 win and the 2-1 match win.
