GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — The Blue Devils divided themselves up in unique fashion for Thursday’s all-Gallia County golf match against South Gallia and River Valley.
Either way, the Gallia Academy High School golf team swept the top two places at Cliffside Golf Club, as coach Mark Allen split his Devils into a “Blue” team and “White” team.
The “Blue” squad, which consisted of the seniors, edged out their “White” underclass counterparts by a single stroke on the Cliffside backside nine holes.
The “Blue” fired a 177 to the “White’s” 178, as River Valley and South Gallia — which fielded only three players apiece — shot 248 and 253 respectively.
The Blue Devils’ “Blue” team consisted of five seniors, while the “White” was the six underclassmen — with the top four scores counting towards the team total.
For the Raiders and Rebels, the highest score of their three golfers was duplicated to make a fourth individual score.
For the Blue Devil seniors, Jeremy Brumfield led the way with a career-best 38, which was also good enough for medalist runner-up.
Josh Davis and Miles Cornwell both shot a 41, while the fourth counting card was Ian Evans’ 57.
Elijah Blazer shot a 66 for the senior club.
For the underclassmen, junior Taae Hamid mustered match medalist honors with a one-under-par 35.
Kaden Thomas tacked on a 39, as Reece Thomas shot a 50 and Braden Simms a 54 for the other three counting scores.
Hobie Graham and Elijah Baird both shot in the 60s — a 65 and 68 respectively.
River Valley’s three scores were a 50 from Aaron Burke and a pair of 66s from Grant Gilmore and Gabe Gilmore.
Curtis Hanner had a 55 to lead South Gallia, while Bryce Nolan notched a 60 and Aaliyah Howell had a 69.
