POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — All good things must come to an end.
The Point Pleasant girls tennis team had its three match winning streak come to an end Thursday night, as non-conference guest Huntington claimed a 7-0 victory in Mason County.
The Lady Knights — who finish the regular season with a 6-9 record — began their winning streak with a 7-0 victory over Lincoln County, at Logan’s Indoor Tennis Center, on Saturday.
In the opening singles matches, PPHS sophomore McKenna Bronosky topped Candace Smith by an 8-1 count, while fellow Lady Knight sophomore Bailey Barnett topped Madison Bowman by a 8-1 final. Olivia Pyles and Danielle Marcum both earned forfeit victories against the Lady Panthers.
Bronosky and Barnett also claimed an 8-0 doubles victory over Smith and Bowman, while the duos of Pyles and Sarah Deem, and Kenlee Bonecutter and Madison Sayre each claimed forfeit wins.
Also on Saturday at Logan, PPHS defeated the host Lady Wildcats by a 4-3 count.
Logan’s Hayley Hatfield claimed a 8-2 win over Bronosky in singles action, while RaeAnn Reed edged Barnett by an 8-6 count. Pyles came through with a 8-1 singles victory over Sami Simpson for PPHS, while Marcum took an 8-2 win over Caddisy Kazee to tie the match at 2-2.
Hatfield and Reed took an 8-5 doubles victory over Bronosky and Barnett, but Pyles and Deem topped the duo of Simpson and Kazee by a 8-5 final. Point Pleasant took the final doubles match, as Bonecutter and Sayre defeated Kenna Jeffrey and Chelsea Spurlock by a 8-0 final.
The Lady Knights continued their roll on Monday, when they topped St. Albans by a 6-1 final at the West Virginia State Institute.
All four singles matches went to the Lady Knights, as Bronosky defeated Maddie Rudge 8-6, Barnett defeated Kaitlynn Gregg 8-3, Pyles topped Lydia Andrews 8-1, and Marcum claimed a 8-3 victory over Elizabeth Sowards.
Bronosky and Barnett dropped a 9-8 decision to Rudge and Gregg in doubles action, following a 7-3 tie-breaker. The Lady Knights capped off the win, as Pyles and Deem defeated Andrews and Kim Batista 8-0, and Bonecutter and Caroline Foreman topped Hanna Johnson and Kalie Warner 8-2.
On Thursday, in Point Pleasant’s regular season finale, Huntington claimed a 7-0 victory in Mason County.
The Lady Highlanders took all four singles matches, as Bronosky fell to Ava Ratcliff (8-1), Barnett fell to Nichole Oliashiraz (8-1), Pyles was defeated by Morgan Staker (8-2) and Marcum dropped an 8-0 decision to Olivia Woodward.
In doubles play, Ratcliff and Nichole Oliashiraz topped Bronosky and Barnett by a 8-1 final, Staker and Woodward defeated Pyles and Deem by a 8-3 count, while Olivia Jenkins and Sophia Oliashiraz claimed a 8-5 win over Bonecutter and Foreman.
PPHS will begin regional play on Thursday.
