Lady Knights blast Nitro, 11-0

NITRO, W.Va. — They weren’t there for a long time, but it sure seemed like the Lady Knights had a good time.

The Point Pleasant softball team visited Nitro on Friday night, and the Lady Knights stayed for only three innings, but they took the 11-0 win.

Point Pleasant (12-6) combined three hits with four free passes and one NHS (1-17) error, to score four runs in the opening inning. After a scoreless second frame, PPHS capped off the 11-0 win by scoring seven runs on 10 hits and one hit batter in the third inning.

PPHS junior Karson Bonecutter struck out two batters and earned the pitching victory for the Red, Black and White, after allowing just one hit and one walk in two innings. Leigh Musgrave pitched the final frame for Point Pleasant, and she gave up two hits.

Nitro’s Kenda Painter suffered the loss in the circle, allowing 11 runs, 10 earned, on 15 hits and one walk, in three innings of work.

Karissa Cochran led the charge for the victors, going 3-for-3 with one double, two singles, two runs scored and one RBI. Tanner King was 2-for-2 with three RBI, Michaela Cottrill was 2-for-3 with RBI and two runs scored, while Megan Hammond was 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.

Leah Cochran singled once, scored twice and drove in one run for the Lady Knights, Lila Beattie and Cammy Hesson both singled once and drove in one run, while Makinley Higginbotham and Kelsey Price both singled once and scored once. Rachael Grimm singled once for the victors, Kelsie Byus scored once and drove in one run, while Hannah Smith scored once in the triumph.

Shay Mosteller led the Lady Wildcats with one double, while Carli Miller and Hailey Harr both singled once.

Each team had one error in the contest. PPHS left six runners on base in the win, while Nitro stranded four runners.

These teams will meet again on April 26, in Point Pleasant. PPHS returns to the diamond on Monday, when Ravenswood visits Mason County.
