Lady Eagles win Rocky Brands Invite

NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Down goes Goliath.

The Eastern Lady Eagles captured first place in the Large School division of the 2016 Rocky Brands Track and Field Invitational held Saturday at Boston Field on the campus of Nelsonville-York High School in Athens County.

The Lady Eagles were the smallest program, by enrollment numbers, competing in the 13-team Large School division, but EHS claimed five individual titles en route to a final score of 100.5 points. Chillicothe was the eventual runner-up with 97 points.

Laura Pullins won titles in both the 400-meter dash (1:02.38) and high jump (5-feet) events, as well as finishing third (27.80) in the 200m dash.

The quartet of Annalisa Boano, Kelsey Johnson, Cierra Smeeks and Jessica Cook won the 4x200m relay event with a time of 1:57.32.

Johnson claimed the 300m hurdles title with a time of 52.69 seconds, while Cook won the 800m run with a mark of 2:27.77.

Cook, Ally Durst, Taylor Palmer and Rhiannon Morris placed second in the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:44.80.

Alia Hayes earned a pair of runner-up efforts in the discus (111-0) and shot put (32-10) events, while Boano also finished third in the 100m dash with a mark of 13.33 seconds.

The Lady Raiders also competed in the Large School division and finished ninth out of 13 teams with 19 points.

Ieva Katkauskaite was the lone top-four River Valley participant after placing fourth in the 400m dash with a mark of 1:06.48.

Lancaster won the Large School crown in the 14-team boys competition with 115.33 points, followed by Parkersburg in second with 104 points.

River Valley finished 11th overall with 12 points, while Eastern and Alexander tied for 12th with eight points apiece.

The Raider quartet of Jacob Campbell, Mark Wray, Jarrett McCarley and Dayton Hardway finished fourth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.75 seconds.

Eastern’s Jett Facemyer was second overall in the 800m run with a mark of 2:05.33.

Nelsonville-York captured the Small School division title as the Buckeyes beat out 14 other boys teams with 130 points. Fisher Catholic was the overall runner-up with 97 points.

Southern finished eighth with 38 points, while the Eastern ‘B’ squad was 10th overall with 23 points.

The Tornado quartet of Riley Roush, Jaylen Blanks, Tyler Pavich and Sean Myers finished third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 49.51 seconds. Roush was also fourth in the 100m dash (11.79) and Blanks was fourth in the 200m dash (24.32).

Joe Beegle placed third for SHS in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 1.5 inches. Connor Wolfe was also fourth in the 1600m run with a mark of 4:50.10.

Noah Browning led Eastern ‘B’ with a second place finish of 2:14.61 in the 800m run. Clayton Ritchie was third in the 300m hurdles (47.17) and also placed fourth in the 110m hurdles (18.37).

The host Lady Buckeyes won the Small School division title with 87 points, while Eastern Brown was second out of 16 teams with 80 points. Southern was 12th overall with 17 points and Eastern ‘B’ tied Miller for 15th with two points each.

The SHS quartet of Jane Roush, Kamryn Smith, Ali Deem and Savannah Bailey earned a pair of fourth place finishes in the 4x100m (57.31) and 4x200m (2:00.32) relay events.
