GLOUSTER, Ohio — Simply put, it was too little, too late for the South Gallia High School girls basketball team.

The visiting Lady Rebels, by only scoring a dozen points through the first three quarters on Thursday night, lost to the Trimble Tomcats 48-35 inside Bill White Gymnasium in Glouster.

The Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division defeat left the Lady Rebels at 3-15 overall and 3-10 in the conference.

Trimble, which led 14-3 after the opening quarter and 22-8 at halftime, improved to 10-9 — and 7-7 in the TVC-Hocking.

South Gallia did erupt for 23 points in the final period, compared to only a pair of three-pointers for the Tomcats.

However, Trimble led 42-12 at the third stop, outscoring the Rebels 20-4 in that quarter.

The Rebels’ only points through the opening three stanzas were a Makayla Poling field goal and free throw in the first quarter, a Carrie Watson three and Aaliyah Howell foul shots in the second, and an Erin Evans field goal and Ashley Northup free throws in the third.

Poling led the Lady Rebels with 10 points, adding a three and 4-of-4 free throws in the fourth frame.

Evans notched nine — with her two triples and a free throw in the final canto.

Howell had eight — on two fourth-quarter field goals and 4-of-6 foul shots.

Olivia Hornsby had 3-of-6 free throws in the fourth.

Nikki Kish, on seven total field goals and 5-of-5 free throws, poured in 20 points to pace the winners.

Morgan Murphy managed 14 points on four field goals and 4-of-4 freebies.

Payton Dixon drained two of the team’s six treys towards eight points.

Murphy made two trifectas as well, with Kish canning one along with Morgan Artell.

Trimble took a 50-40 decision in the two teams’ first meeting on Dec. 19.
