WHEELING, W.Va. — The Point Pleasant wrestling squad posted a 7-2 overall record and finished eighth out of 30 teams Monday and Tuesday during the 25th annual Wheeling Park Duals held at Wheeling Park High School in Ohio County.
The Big Blacks went 3-1 on Day 1 while finishing second only to Dover in the Pool D competition, then PPHS posted a 4-1 mark in the finale while losing only to Alliance. Point Pleasant ended up posting team victories over Bethel Tate, Washington Court House, Cuyahoga Falls, St. Xavier, Oak Glen, Morgantown and Cameron.
The Big Blacks had nine different grapplers post winning records during the two-day event, which included a pair of unbeaten 9-0 efforts from Tannor Hill (220) and George Smith (106). Grant Safford (195) and Scotty Wilcox (126) also had solid performances after each went 8-1 in their respective divisions.
Hunter White went 7-2 overall at 182 pounds, while Christopher Lush posted a 6-2 record in the 145 weight class. Miles Williams (152), Andrew Roach (170) and Jacob Roub (138) each ended the two-day event with identical 5-4 marks.
Luke Wilson (113) and Caleb Lane (120) both went 4-5 overall, while James Patterson ended the event with a 3-4 mark in the heavyweight division. Jeffrey Simpkins (132) posted a 2-7 record and Brian Gillispie was 1-1 as a heavyweight.
Thomas Jeffrey and Jon Jones also competed on behalf of the PPHS program, but neither scored a victory in a combined six matches.
Parkersburg South was the overall team champion at the two-day event, with Steubenville and Carrollton rounding out the top three spots. Dover, George Washington and Harrison completed spots four through six, while Alliance also placed ahead of PPHS.
University, John Marshall, Morgantown and Washington Court House filled in the nine through 12 spots in the team competition.

The Big Blacks return to action Saturday when they travel to University for a quad match, then come home Wednesday night for a quad match against Buchannon-Upshur, Parkersburg and Riverside.
