PITTSBURGH, Pa. — At least in terms of head-to-head meetings with Point Park University, the third time was not the charm for the University of Rio Grande volleyball team.

The Pioneers celebrated Senior Day and completed a season sweep of the RedStorm with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-12) victory, Saturday afternoon, in the regular season finale for both schools at the Student Center Gym.

Point Park improved to 19-11 overall and 12-4 in the River States Conference with the win and will be the East Division No. 2 seed in next weekend’s RSC Championship Tournament at Indiana University Kokomo.

Rio Grande, which slipped to 9-22 overall and 4-12 in league play, is also tournament bound as the East Division No. 4 seed.

The RedStorm will face tourney host – and West Division top seed – IU Kokomo on Friday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m., in the quarterfinal round.

In Saturday’s match against Point Park, Rio hung tough early until the Pioneers pulled away to win the opening set.

PPU controlled each of the final two sets to complete the sweep.

The Pioneers finished with a .255 attack percentage for the day, tallying 43 kills and 17 errors in 102 swings as a team.

Jordan Dixon had a match-high 12 kills to go along with 10 digs for the home team, while Julia Menosky and Brittney Bianco handed out 21 and 17 assists, respectively.

Morgan Dangelo had 14 digs to lead Point Park, while Ashley Castelli finished with 12 digs of her own and Ashley Taylor was in on five blocks (2 solos, 3 assists).

Rio Grande tallied just 20 kills as a team in the contest and finished with a .077 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Abigail Grasso (Minford, OH) had five kills to lead the RedStorm, with sophomore Macy Roell (Farmersville, OH) adding 11 assists and junior Katie Hemsley (Jackson, OH) tallying 14 digs in a losing cause.
