KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Rio Grande jumped two spots into the No. 3 position in the latest NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released Tuesday afternoon by the national office.
The RedStorm picked up one first-place vote for the second straight week and tallied 457 points in the balloting of a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
Rio Grande (13-0), which collected wins over 27th-ranked West Virginia University-Tech and rival Shawnee State University last week, is scheduled to return to action on Thursday at Ohio Christian University.
Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. at the OCU Soccer Complex in Circleville.
William Carey (Miss.) continues as the top-ranked team in the poll after receiving 10 of the 18 first-place votes and 491 points in the balloting.
Oklahoma Wesleyan stayed close behind in second place after grabbing the seven remaining first-place nods and 488 points.
The remainder of the top five includes Rio Grande, Hastings, Neb. (447 pts.) and Central Methodist, Mo. (442 pts.).
Bethel (Tenn.) made the biggest jump of the week, going from unranked to 16th.
The University of Mobile (Ala.) had the biggest drop for the week among the Top 25 teams, slipping all the way from third to 20th.
Menlo (Calif.) was the only team to drop off the Top 25 list.
WBU-Tech continues to be the only other RSC to receive mention in poll – as they’ve done for seven straight weeks – with 37 points for the equivalent of 28th place.
