Point competes at Wirt County Wetlands

ELIZABETH, W.Va. — Swamped with success.

The Point Pleasant cross country teams collectively came away with one individual champion and four top-20 efforts on Saturday at the 2018 Wirt County Wetlands Invitational hosted by Wirt County High School.

Senior Luke Wilson earned top individual honors in the boys event after beating out 45 other competitors with a winning mark of 18:29.88, guiding the Black Knights to a fourth place finish as a team.

The Lady Knights, on the other hand, had a trio of top-20 finishes en route to a third place effort in the girls meet.

The Ritchie County boys claimed the team title with 20 points, with Williamstown (63) and Wirt County (72) rounding out the top three spots. Kent Bee was the runner-up behind Wilson with a second place time of 19:07.25.

Ethan Scott followed Wilson for PPHS with a 24th place effort of 23:05.25, followed by Tanner Durst (24:31.53) and Kyelar Morrow (25:24.00) with respective finishes of 31st and 36th overall.

Isaac Daniels (27:51.81) completed the team tally with a 38th place finish. Luke Derenberger was also 41st overall with a mark of 28:20.97.

Williamstown came away with the girls crown with a winning tally of 18 points. Ritchie County (47) ended up as the runner-up, finishing ahead of the Lady Knights.

Ella Hesson of Williamstown won the girls title individually with a time of 20:53.41. Teammate Natalie Swain was second with a mark of 22:09.94.

Allison Henderson paced the Lady Knights with an eighth place finish of 24:46.28. Isabella Sang (26:41.06) and Ava Yonker (29:09.41) were next with respective efforts of 13th and 19th.

Naomi Meisser was next in 21st place with a mark of 30:51.81. Amber Hatfield completed the team tally with a time of 31:49.09.
