McARTHUR, Ohio — If you can finish strong, a slow start can be made irrelevant.

The Meigs volleyball team dropped Thursday night’s opening game to Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division host Vinton County, but the Lady Marauders claimed the next three games and the match by a 3-1 count.

The Lady Vikings took the first game by a 25-20 count, but Meigs (5-15, 4-6 TVC Ohio) answered with a 25-17 win in the second. The Lady Marauders charged to a 25-9 victory in the third game and held on for a 25-22 win in a hard-fought fourth game.

MHS junior Devyn Olvier led Meigs with 11 kills and 11 aces in the win, while Allie Hanstine and Alliyah Pullins both marked eight kills and one ace. Kassidy Betzing posted seven kills, Devin Humphreys added three kills and four aces, Morgan Lodwick chipped in with three kills and three aces, while libero Jordan Roush finished with two aces for the victors.

Oliver also posted a team-best 24 assists for Meigs, followed by Lodwick with three. Betzing, Pullins and Roush each had two digs to charge the Maroon and Gold defensive effort.

The Lady Marauders also defeated VCHS on September 15, by a 3-1 count at Larry R. Morrison Gymnasium.

Meigs will return home for the final time this season on Tuesday when Nelsonville-York visits Rocksprings. The Lady Buckeyes swept Meigs in a September 17 match in Athens County.
