ASHTON, W.Va. — As the night progressed, the Lady Wildcats just kept getting better.

The Hannan volleyball team claimed a straight games win over visiting Huntington St. Joseph on Monday evening in Mason County, with the hosts increasing their margin of victory in each game.

The Lady Wildcats (2-5) — winners of back-to-back matches — fought through four lead changes and seven ties before opening up a seven-point, 17-10, lead in the opening game.

The Lady Irish trimmed the HHS lead back to one point three times, at 18-17, 20-19 and 21-20, but Hannan didn’t relinquish its advantage, scoring the final four points of Game 1 to seal the 25-20 win.

The Lady Wildcats led wire-to-wire in the second game, stretching the margin as high as 10 before capping off the 25-16 win to move ahead 2-0 in the match.

St. Joseph led by as many as three points early in the third game, but Hannan roared back to take the lead at 6-5 and never trailed again. HHS put the final touches on the 3-0 sweep with a 25-14 win in Game 3, with the final margin of 11 standing as Hannan’s largest lead of the night.

A total of 10 Lady Wildcats earned at least one service point in the match, led by Cassidy Duffer with 11 points and three aces. Kassidee Bush was next with eight points and two aces, Halie Johnson added seven points, while Tonika Coleman and Hannah Carol both finished with five points.

Josie McCoy recorded four points and two aces for the victors, while Pammie Ochs and Bailey Hudnall each had two points, with an ace by Ochs. Hailey White and Jessica Dalton rounded out the HHS service attack with one point apiece.

Alejandra Mallory led St. Joseph with eight points, followed by Caleeyah Slash with five. Laura Rabel and Caleigh Morris each had three points, Barri MacGougan added two, while Emmie Blatt had one service point.

The Lady Wildcats were swept by St. Joe as part of a tri-match earlier this year. These teams will meet again on Oct. 12 in Huntington.

Hannan will welcome Point Pleasant to Ashton on Thursday.
