RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — Time to regroup and give it another go.
In the Class A Region 4, Section 1 winner’s bracket final on Wednesday in Jackson County, the third-seeded Wahama baseball team suffered a 13-0 setback at the hands of top-seeded host Ravenswood, leaving the White Falcons to host an elimination game on Friday.
On Friday, Wahama (17-10) will host fourth-seeded Parkersburg Catholic, as the Crusaders knocked off No. 2 Williamstown by a 7-6 final in an elimination game on Wednesday.
Ravenswood (19-7) — which will await the winner of the White Falcons and Crusaders — scored three runs apiece in each of the first two innings, with a three-run home run by Chase Swain highlighting the second frame.
The White Falcons held RHS off the board in the third inning, but the Red Devils more than made up for it in the fourth. The hosts scored seven runs, on six walks, one hit and one error, capping off the 13-0 win.
The loss, ends Wahama’s postseason win-streak at 16 games.
Swain earned the pitching victory in a complete game for RHS, allowing five hits and one walk, while striking out eight batters.
Wahama junior Dalton Kearns struck out two batters and suffered the loss in two innings on the mound for Wahama, allowing six runs, four earned, on four hits and one walk.
Jared Oliver pitched 1.1 frames of relief for the guests, striking out one batter and allowing four runs, three earned, on one hit and four walks. Jonathan Frye threw the final .2 innings, allowing three unearned runs on one hit and two walks.
Oliver was 2-for-2 to lead the White Falcons at the plate, while Tyler Bumgarner doubled once in three at-bats. Philip Hoffman and Tanner Smith each contributed a single to the WHS cause.
Blake Bennett led Ravenswood offensively, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Swain was 1-for-4 with a home run, one run scored and a game-best four RBIs.
The White Falcons committed five errors and left eight runners on base, while RHS had two errors and six runners stranded.
The Red Devils and White Falcons were scheduled to meet in the regular season, on May 1, but the game was cancelled.
