VC wins 3rd TVC Ohio golf match

JACKSON, Ohio — It was close, but there was no proverbial cigar.

Vinton County has taken the lead over Meigs in the season standings following a two stroke victory over the field Monday during the third Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division golf match at the Franklin Valley Golf Course in Jackson County.

The Vikings shot a collective score of 195, followed closely by the Marauders with a 197. Wellston finished third with a 212, while River Valley (219) took fourth overall. Nelsonville-York (225), Alexander (232) and Athens (233) rounded out the remaining three spots.

VCHS — who was the host for Monday’s match — leads the league with a 17-1 record, followed by the Marauders at 16-2. Wellston climbed into third in the standings with a 8-10 record. The Raiders are currently fourth in the standings, while Nelsonville-York, Alexander and Athens are currently fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

Meigs’ Levi Chapman and River Valley’s Logan Sheets shared medalist honors after scoring identical rounds of 4-over par 41.

Chase Whitlatch shot a 48 for the Marauders, followed by Wyatt Nicholson’s 52. Bryce Swatzel fired a a 56 and Evan George shot a 57. Brody Reynolds rounded out the Maroon and Gold’s final score with a 63.

River Valley’s Brandon Cornell shot a 55. Grant Gilmore finished with a 61, followed closely by Cliff Chapman’s 62. Chance Gilman (64) also added to the Silver and Black’s final tally.

Scores for Vinton County included Austin Ward (42), Alec Boothe (47), Noah Waddell (53), Bailey Bartoe (53), Shaun McCarty (58) and Tyler Barnette (59).

Scores for Wellston included Blake Royster and Seth Coulter (49), Justin Rafferty (53), Josh Lung (61), Ken Lemaster (61) and Michael Channell (74).

Scores for NYHS included Ben Johnson (53), Hunter Dobbs (56), Chase Koker (57), David Strausbaugh (57), Tyler Smith and Casey Davis (59).

Scores for Alexander included Andrew Vogt (51), Taylor Boggs (60), Tyler Martin (60), Casey McDonald (61), Casey Davis (62) and John Cramer (66).

Scores for Athens included Drew Zorn (50), Owen Canditelli (58), Patrick Greer (58), Ryan Sheehar (67), Greg List (68) and Cory Wachenschwanz (71).

The fourth TVC Ohio golf match will be held on Monday, Aug. 31, when Athens hosts the league at the Athens Country Club in Athens, Ohio.
