Teen testimony: We need each other

We need each other

One of the most beautiful things about the Church is the opportunity to serve the Lord together. We can’t do it alone. We need each other.

“All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it” (1 Cor. 12:27 NLT).

Even though we serve God in different ways, we work together. When you do your part, you help “… proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Pet. 2:9 ESV).

As God’s Church, we must realize the importance of working together to reach a lost and dying world. We need each other. Allow me to share an example.

This past weekend, I had the honor of preaching to a local church. Before preaching, my girlfriend and I led the congregation in worship. I wanted the last song to open my sermon. In other words, God laid it on my heart to begin preaching during the last song.

Because of this, I knew I shouldn’t play an instrument. So guess what I did? I asked Gabrielle to play the piano. I wanted some background music for the opener of my sermon. However, Gabrielle didn’t want to play the piano. Why? She was afraid of making a mistake. But I insisted. And she did a fabulous job.

You see, because I encouraged Gabrielle, she took a step of faith and grew stronger in her gift. And because she was willing to take that step, I was able to say what God had placed on my heart. I couldn’t have done it alone. We needed each other.

No matter who you are, God desires to use you for His glory. And when we serve God together, there’s no telling what the Church can accomplish for His name.

I hope this column encourages unity within the body of Christ. As His people, we must work together. Only then can the Church reach its fullest potential. Only then can the Church really make a difference in this world.

I’m not sure what God-given gifts you have, but I encourage you to take a step outside of your comfort zone and serve God. There’s always room to grow. There’s always another step to take. No matter how you serve, always remember the important part you play. You are irreplaceable.

Maybe you need to encourage someone else in the body of Christ to use his or her gift.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Heb. 10:24-25 ESV).

We’re in this together, Church. Let’s never quit. Let’s serve the Lord together. Let’s get along. Why? Because someone still needs Jesus. When we serve together, the Church becomes what it’s made to be—the body of Christ.
