POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education members recently met for a regular business meeting, voting on personnel issues.

The school board members in attendance were President Jared Billings, Vice President Meagan Bonecutter, Ashley Cossin, and Dale Shobe, along with Superintendent Jack Cullen. Rhonda Tennant, school board member, was absent.

The following motions were approved:

The request for a Hannan Junior/Senior High School student, who meets all college preparatory graduation requirements, according to policy 5464, to graduate early, at the end of the 2019-20 school year.

Two requests for two Mason County students to attend school in Cabell County for the 2019-20 school year.

Three out of state requests for four students to attend school in Mason County for the 2019-20 school year. Out of state tuition will apply.

Volunteers from Ashton Elementary, Beale Elementary, Hannan JR/SR High, New Haven Elementary, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School, and Roosevelt Elementary, for the 2019-20 school year.

Mason County School System employees as approved drivers for the 2019-20 school year. Their driving records have been approved by the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Out of state travel for Mason County School System employees to travel to Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 2-4 to attend National Council of Teachers of Mathmatics Regional Conference. Math 4 Life Grant will be the funding source.

Discuss and take possible action on policy 5113.01 — Intra-County Open Enrollment.

Family Medical Leave for Cody Greathouse, teacher, Point Pleasant JR/SR High School, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

The employment of Ryan Roush, seventh grade boys basketball coach, Wahama JR/SR High School, job #503-211-S, effective for the 2019-20 school year.

The purchase from Advantage Technology, of installation of Computer Hardware and Block Hours for upgrade to servers at a cost of $123,924.61, pricing based on state bid. Step 7b grant will be the funding source.

Permission for Amilda Noll-Thompson and Alisha Wallis, to submit a grant to 2019 Community Foundation of Mason County (MCCF) Community Action Grant Fall, to provide two separate puppet shows at Beale Elementary, showing different ways to represent literature to students.

A Master Installment Lease Purchase Agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services USA, LLC, to provide five new Thomas Built buses from Matheny Motors during the 2019-20 school year at an annual cost of $105,243.26 per year for five years. Annual Step 4 funding from the West Virginia Public School Support Program will be the funding source.

The school board members review the monthly financial statements.

The ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check number 105221-105380 and purchase card check numbers 2900-2931. Total Amount: $929,523.47.

The proposal from McKinley Architecture and Engineering, for the completion of Mason County Schools’ 2020-2030 Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan (CEFP), at a cost of $49,500, plus standard reimbursement fees. Local County Monies will be the funding source.

In other business, a reports were given by Director of Education Cindy Dearborn regarding the Huntington Museum of Art, Child Nutrition Director Beverly Glaze regarding food service vendors, Curriculum Director Kenny Bond regarding West Virginia General Summative Assessment Data for Mason County Schools and Treasurer Gary Hendricks regarding the 2019 financial statement.

The next regular business meeting is scheduled for this evening, Oct. 8, 6 p.m. at the Mason County Board of Education office.
