Board of Education approves agenda items

POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education recently met for a regular business meeting, voting on personnel issues.

The school board members in attendance were Jared Billings, Meagan Bonecutter, Ashley Cossin, Dale Shobe, and Rhonda Tennant, along with Superintendent Jack Cullen.

The following motions were approved:

Angela Lloyd and Summer Mitchell as approved drivers for the 2018-19 school year. Their driving records have been checked by the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Volunteers from Ashton Elementary, Leon Elementary, New Haven Elementary, Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High, Point Pleasant Primary School, and Roosevelt Elementary for the 2018-19 school year.

The following Work Based Learning Sites for the 2018-19 school year: Auto Options, C.A.Co. Catering, JCDC, Meigs Veterinary Clinic, New Haven Library, Patricia Stanhope Daycare, Pleasant Valley Hospital, Precisioned Components, Dr. Kayanna Sayre, DDS, Second Time Treasures, Thompson Hardware, Wendy’s (Point Pleasant and Gallipolis).

Out of state travel for Patty Blake to travel to Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 29-Oct. 31. to attend National Dropout Prevention Conference. This will be at no cost to the board.

The Memorandum of Understanding and Agreement between the Mason County Board of Education and West Virginia Department of Education, to enter into a five year West Virginia Math4Life Campaign, beginning 2018-19 school year.

The agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center, to allow Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center to accept Mason County Career Center students for supervised learning experiences for the 2018-19 school year.

The agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Pleasant Valley Hospital, to allow Pleasant Valley Hospital to accept Mason County Career Center Students for supervised learning experiences for the 2018-19 school year.

Family Medical Leave for Susan Saunders, teacher, Mason County Career Center, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

The resignation of Kayla Tucker, special education teacher, Roosevelt Elementary, effective Sept. 21. Motion carries with yes votes from Billings, Bonecutter, Cossin, and Tennant and an abstain from Shobe.

The transfer of Christopher Lyons, LD/BD/MI/AU teacher, Point Pleasant JR/SR High, to LD/BD/MI teacher, Mason County Career Center, job #701-015-P, effective 2019-20 school year.

The transfer of Charlotte Oshel, teacher, Mason County School for Success, to principal, Ashton Elementary School, job #216-201-P, effective Oct. 22.

The employment of Amanda Barr, Sharon Phlegar, and Mary Pyles, and Jamie Bonecutter as substitute teachers for the 2018-19 school year. Motion carries with yes votes from Billings, Cossin, Shobe, and Tennant and an abstain from Bonecutter.

The employment of Iva Johnson, elementary interventionist, New Haven Elementary, job #001-700-E, on an as needed basis, effective Oct. 11.

The employment of Tirza Kay, elementary interventionist, Roosevelt Elementary, job #001-700-E, on an as needed basis, effective Oct. 11.

The employment of Kira Northup, home bound/alternative ed., on an as needed basis, job #001-045-E, effective Sept. 27.

The employment of Jared Taylor, student supervisor, Hannan Junior/Senior High, job #501-151-E, on an as needed basis, effective 2018-19 school year.

The pre-k addendum of $6,000, for Craig Hesson, for additional work responsibilities with the collaborative Pre-K Program, effective 2018-19 school year. Federal Pre-K funds will be the funding source.
