POINT PLEASANT — The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election is today, Oct. 16.
Residents may apply to register to vote online through the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, or in person at the county clerk’s office, or by mail.
To register to vote or update voter registration, voters must provide the following information: Name as it appears on their West Virginia driver’s license or ID card; date of birth; West Virginia driver’s license or ID card number; and the last four digits of their Social Security number.
County Clerk Diana Cromley said voters also need to show proof of their current residency, P.O. Box numbers are not applicable. If the information on the voters driver’s license or ID card is up-to-date that is sufficient, if not, a voter can bring in a piece of mail with the voter’s current address. A confirmation card will be sent to the voter’s address within 10 days.
As of Oct. 15, Cromley reported the following voting statistics for Mason County: 18,072 total registered voters. Of those voters, 7,970 are registered Democrats, while 6,548 are registered Republicans, 672 are Independent, 20 belong to the Mountain Party, 66 are Libertarians, and 2791 are listed as “other” voter registration.
Early voting begins Oct.24 and ends Nov.3 between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Early voting takes place on the second floor of the Mason County Courthouse in the County Commission meeting room. There will be poll workers in the lobby to assist voters to one of six voting machines in the early voting room. Voters need to bring a form of ID with them whether it be their photo ID or their voter registration card.
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, polls will open at 6:30 a.m. at the designated voting precincts and will close at 7:30 p.m.
