NEW HAVEN — For most people, thoughts of Christmas remain in the future, but for members of the Bend Area CARE organization, it’s down to crunch time.
CARE members spend the entire year raising funds to provide gifts for the over 60 children they “adopt” in the “Kids for Christmas” program. One of the final fundraisers will be Nov. 3, when they host their annual bingo event.
The games will begin at 6 p.m. in the banquet room of the American Legion hall in New Haven. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with concessions of chicken and noodles, hotdogs, pulled pork, desserts and drinks being sold.
According to Leonard Koenig, CARE member and one of the event organizers, bingo prizes will consist of Thirty-One gift products, cash, and gift cards.
“We are hoping to attract more men to the bingo games this year by offering cash and gift cards, rather than the traditional baskets,” Koenig said.
Participants will donate $20 to play 20 games. Prizes will include a number of $50 cash prizes, Walmart gift cards, and cards to popular eateries like Applebees and Texas Roadhouse. A special cover-all game will be played for an additional $5 donation. The prize will be $100 cash. Early bird tickets will be available until Oct. 31 from CARE members.
Door prizes will also be given away during the evening, and are still being accepted from businesses and individuals, Koenig added.
