Board of Education approves agenda items

POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education recently met for a regular business meeting, voting on personnel issues.

The school board members in attendance were Jared Billings, Meagan Bonecutter, Ashley Cossin, Dale Shobe, and Rhonda Tennant, along with Superintendent Jack Cullen.

The following motions were approved:

The following as approved drivers for the 2018-19 school year. Their driving records have been approved by the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles: Joyce Banks, Andrew Blain, Bradley Clay, Ben Loudin, Brooke Neal, Soni Roush, JoAnn Thomas, and Stacey Walton.

The request for a Mason County student to attend school in Cabell County for the 2018-19 school year.

Out of state travel for Pamela Hay, to travel to Orlando, Florida, Oct. 24-29, to attend the Annual Conference for Middle Level Education. Leon Elementary Title I funds will be the funding source.

The Contracted Service Agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Gerald Stewart, to provide music instruction for students at Beale Elementary and Leon Elementary, for the 2018-19 school year. County Funds will be the funding source.

The lowest submitted bid from F&M Mafco, Inc., for the purchase of a Miller Augmented Arc Welding System for Mason County Career Center, at the cost of $19,876. State grant money will be the funding source.

The ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check numbers 101549 through 101706. Total Amount: $819,901.91.

Brianne Solomon was given recognition for her exemplary service.

Reports were given by Dr. Georgia Thornton, administrative assistant to the superintendent/curriculum director, Gary Hendricks, finance director, and Dr. Doug Sturgeon, attendance director.

The next regular business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct.9, 6 p.m. at the Mason County Board of Education office.
