Dance to highlight month of senior events

MASON COUNTY — A community dance to support senior programs will highlight September activities for Mason County Senior Citizens.

Open to the public, the dance will be held Sept. 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gene Salem Senior Center. The center is located at 101 Second Street in Point Pleasant.

Music will be provided by Tom Payne, who will be playing oldies, rock and roll, and country tunes. There will be concessions available, as well as door prizes, drawings, and a cake walk. Admission is $5.

In addition, Jim and Anna Maria Butler will be offering free dance lessons on the day of the event from 3 to 5 p.m. at the center.

A number of other activities will take place at the Gene Salem center during the month, including a flu shot clinic on Sept. 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. by Fruth Pharmacy. Wellness checks will be conducted by Medi-Home Health on Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Two presentations will be made during the month. On Sept. 5, Ann Dalton will present “Medicare Open Enrollment Notices” at 11 a.m. Phil Schenk, West Virginia Partnership for Elderly Living, will present “Medicaid and Seniors” on Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m. In addition, a representative from the Veterans Administration will visit on Sept. 20 from noon to 2 p.m.

Regular activities at the Point Pleasant center are bingo on Mondays and Fridays, the Senior Center Country Band on Wednesdays, and music and church services on Thursdays. All begin at 10 a.m.

A flu shot clinic will be held by Fruth Pharmacy at the Mason Senior Center on Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Two presentations will be held in Mason during the month, including “Medicare Open Enrollment Notices” by Ann Dalton on Sept. 6 at 11:30 a.m. “Consumer Fraud” will be presented by Brook Albright of the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office on Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to noon.

Regular Mason activities are bingo on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Healthy Steps exercise classes on Wednesdays, and music and church services on Fridays. All begin at 10:30 a.m.

Both centers, as well as the Mason County Community Action Group business office, will be closed Sept. 4 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
