Charleston man arrested for solicitation of a minor

Staff Report

MASON COUNTY — A Charleston man was arrested on Friday for alleged solicitation of a minor.

Tyler Holstein, 23, is facing charges of solicitation of a minor and multiple counts of obscene, harassing communications by computer, according to the Mason Deputies Facebook post regarding the arrest.

The release reads, that on Friday Deputy Justin Cavender received a complaint of an adult male allegedly sending obscene pictures to a minor. On making contact with the complainant it was learned Holstein had reportedly sent a friend request via Facebook to the juvenile. After being accepted by the juvenile he then started allegedly sending explicit pictures of himself to the juvenile and during the evening of July 6 through the early morning hours of July 7. He had allegedly sent over 100 pictures along with asking the juvenile to meet him in a motel at one point.

After taking the initial complaint Cavender began researching the subject and learned that the West Virginia State Police had filed charges of the same nature on Holstein in Roane County, West Virginia.

After confirming Holstein was apparently in the Charleston area, Cavender made contact with members of the Charleston Police Department and requested their assistance in apprehending Holstein. Holstein was reportedly located in a motel and members of A Shift of the Patrol Division of Charleston Police Department had apprehended Holstein and another individual. Holstein was arrested on the active warrant from Roane County and faces possible other charges due to Charleston PD’s own investigation stemming from the arrest.

Cavender has filed complaints with the Mason County Magistrate against Holstein.
