POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church on Main Street has installed a Blessing Box, a place for anyone to take or leave non-perishable goods.
It is placed along the 8th Street side of the church, and was funded by the church and supplied in part from its regional food pantry.
It was installed two weeks ago, and has been used heavily since then. Volunteers have been adding items into the Blessing Box daily to keep up with the substantial traffic. While other blessing boxes have been placed in the upper end of town and at Hannan Junior/Senior High School, this is the only one in the lower end of town.
“We have had a lot of traffic here, we are adding more food and items in every day,” Pam Heib, secretary at the church stated.
The box was constructed by church members Garry and Terry Lively.
“We encourage people to put certain things in based on what they contribute,” said Donna Lambert, who has been volunteering at the church food pantry for years. “We also want people to take what they need.”
The only rules for the box are for participants to be respectful and only give items that are nonperishable. Personal care goods are welcome, so long as they are not used.
