ASHTON — The Mason County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting which reportedly occurred late Wednesday morning.
According to a statement from the Mason County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to a residence located in the 23000-block of Ashton Upland Road to investigate a report of a person shot.
The resident of the home indicated that a male subject entered the home, making threats and was shot by a resident. The resident further advised that the male had fled the scene on foot to a nearby mobile home.
Once on scene, officers located one adult male laying on a couch inside the mobile home with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Mason County EMS also arrived on scene and transported the male to Hannan High School where he was then transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital via HealthNet Aeromedical for further treatment.
At press time, the sheriff’s department reported the incident remains under investigation and at the conclusion of this investigation, the findings will be submitted to the Mason County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from Mason County EMS, Valley Fire Department, West Virginia State Police and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
