Annual tourism essay contest underway

The 4th annual Tourism Essay Contest is seeking entries for this year. Applicants need to be female, between the ages of 17-24. Winner of the contest gets a $500 scholarship and will reign for a year as the Mason County Tourism Queen, attending local events in the area and working with the Mason County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau to promote tourism.

Essays must be one-page in length and state why the candidate would like the title of Mason County Tourism Queen, as well as information about herself and her abilities to represent the title.

Those interested should seek an application at the Tourism Center, or email contest coordinator Delyssa Edwards, at There is no fee, and this is not a pageant. Once all applications have been received, the CVB will announce up to five finalists who will then go through a personal interview process. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2017.

Former winners include Emily Hussell, 2014; Amanda Baker, 2015, and the reigning Tourism Queen, Destiny Brown.
