Agriculture program begins

The Western Conservation District will be taking sign-ups for the Agriculture Enhancement Program which provides cost share assistance for agricultural practices. The sign up will begin June 1 with the last day to sign up being June 30.

The land must be engaged in agriculture in the counties of Mason, Jackson or Putnam counties. Limited funding for this program is provided by the WV Conservation Agency.

The Western Conservation District limits applicants to a $4,000 program cap per year which includes two practices. All practices must be completed by May 31, 2017. Limits and cost share rates differ per practice. You can review all program rules, practices, limits, etc. on the West Virginia Conservation Agency’s website at: click on District Offices then Western.

To apply for the program you will need to stop by the Western Conservation District (WCD) office in June at 224C First Street, Point Pleasant. The program in the WCD is available to landowners and operators in Jackson, Mason and Putnam counties.

If you are applying for lime, nutrient management, cover crop or frost seeding you will need to have a current soil test report. A current soil test is within three years of application. You may stop by or contact the office for more information at 304-675-3054. Applications will be taken throughout the month of June only.
