The mountains of West Virginia are a cherished part of the Bonnie and Buren Duncan family heritage. Often their children will reminisce of their humble upbringing. In his book, “The Heart of a Shepherd,” Roger Duncan writes:

“Our family was poor from a material perspective, but oh, so rich in the things of God! I have said before, We never wore the finest of clothes, but mom and dad made sure we were clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. We never ate the finest of foods, but we dined daily on the Bread of Life. We never lived in the finest homes, but they pointed us towards ‘a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.’ Mom and Dad didn’t leave behind a financial fortune, but laid up ‘treasures in heaven where moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves can’t break through and steal.’”
