Devin Cottrill won the 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Queen title at the conclusion of Thursday’s pageant. She is pictured with her court. Six girls competed in the 2010 pageant, themed “Great Moments,” but it was Cottrill who walked away as festival royalty.
“I am really excited,” Cottrill said. “And I am looking forward to reigning over the festival.”
She is the daughter of Mick and Heather Cottrill of Letart and is a pre-pharmacy major at West Virginia University Tech.
Receiving first runner-up was Taylor Somerville, the 16-year old daughter of Ty and June Somerville of Point Pleasant. Somerville also was named the “Crowd Favorite;” a new award which was voted upon by the audience.
Second runner-up went to Marla Nowlin. She also won the Hero Award presented by the family of Paul and Bobby Wood. Nowlin is the 18-year old daughter of Rick and Tonda Nowlin of Apple Grove.
Alea Hipes was voted Miss Congeniality by all of the contestants. She is the 18-year old daughter of Leslie Hipes of Point Pleasant.
Other contestants in this year’s pageant included Amanda Baker and Jessie Wamsley.
Candace Bonecutter, co-director and the 2007 Regatta Queen, emceed the event along with outgoing queen Summer Searls, who crowned Cottrill and her court. The pageant is directed by Heather (Rulen) Wood, who was the 1995 Regatta Queen. She has directed the pageant for the past 10 years.
Each contestant competed in a personal interview, street wear, evening gown and public interview. Escorts for the evening were Chauncey McClanahan and Anthony Darst.
The evening was a special one, since it marked the 20th anniversary of the pageant. Former queens graced the stage and introduced themselves to the audience that packed the theatre.
Cottrill received a grand prize package which includes an expense paid trip to compete in the 2011 Miss West Virginia Association of Fairs and Festivals Pageant, a $1,000 cash scholarship compliments of City Ice & Fuel, a crown compliments of Siders’ Jewelers, hand-beaded sash compliments of Deal Funeral Home, crown pin compliments of the Regatta committee, a trophy compliments of Commissioner Gus Douglass, bouquet of flowers from Four Seasons Florists, magnetic car crown compliments of Richard Walker, CPA, sitting and an 8x10 portrait from Main Street Photography, one month unlimited tanning compliments of Advance Design, a manicure and styling products from Tina at Short Cuts, a prize package compliments of Full Hallmark, a one year subscription to In Style magazine from Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Chapter, a highlight, cut and style by Kenny Grady, Sternwheel appearance earrings compliments of Heather Wood, and a 2011 Queen’s Reception compliments of Peoples Bank.
