Seven to vie for Regatta Queen’s crown

POINT PLEASANT — A new Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Queen will be crowned on Thursday, July 1.

Seven young ladies will compete for the 2010 crown during this year’s pageant, slated for 6 p.m. at the State Theatre, located on Main St. By the pageant’s conclusion, 2009 Regatta Queen Summer Searls will crown the new queen.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Regatta Queen Pageant. The pageant’s theme will be “Great Moments,” and will feature a selection of music from blockbuster films through the years. Contestants will participate in an opening production and will compete in street wear, evening gown and public interview.

Contestants are: Amanda Baker, daughter of John and Tammy Baker of Point Pleasant; Devin Cottrill, daughter of Mick and Heather Cottrill of Letart; Kaitlyn Michelle Ellis, daughter of Darren and Stephanie Ellis of Ashton; Alea Victoria Hipes, daughter of Leslie Hipes of Point Pleasant; Marla Rayne Nowlin, daughter of Rick and Tonda Nowlin of Apple Grove; Taylor Nicole Somerville, daughter of Ty and June Somerville of Point Pleasant; and Jessie Nicole Wamsley, daughter of Vicky and John Wamsley of Point Pleasant.
