And residents will have the opportunity to celebrate Memorial Day by participating or going to see the Memorial Day parade, scheduled for Saturday, May 29.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. and will take place on Main Street in Point Pleasant. The event, which is being sponsored by the Mason County Amvets Post No. 2 and the Ladies Auxiliary, will feature a variety of floats. Area organizations and groups are encouraged to participate in the event.
As the event is an opportunity to remember our soldiers, the community is encouraged to attend the parade. To participate in the parade, call 304-812-5167 or 304-675-2647.
Residents also will have the opportunity to honor soldiers with a Memorial Day service, slated for 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 31. The service will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, located at Route 62 in Letart. Dave Hall, former Vietnam veteran and past commander of the West Virginia American Legion, will serve as the guest speaker. Mark Burdette of Scott Depot and of the Kanawha Valley Pipes and Drums will perform on the bag pipes. Bill Davis, former Air Force veteran, will play taps.
Honor Guard for the service will be provided by Smith-Capehart Post 140 of New Haven and Stewart-Johnson VFW Post 9926 of Mason. Rev. Charlie Hargraves, former Vietnam veteran, will provide the invocation.
