Julia Estaline Welch Wright, 92, Point Pleasant, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 30, 2010, at home.

She was born January 7, 1918, in Beech Hill, a daughter of the late Arleigh James Welch and Betty Elizabeth (Meadows) Welch.

Julia attended Kanawha County schools where she graduated from Elkview High School in 1936. After graduation, she attended McMillan’s School of Nursing in Charleston from which she obtained a Registered Nursing degree in 1939. She began working at McMillan Hospital after her graduation and stayed for seven years.

She moved to Point Pleasant in 1951, where, along with her husband, she ran the Ohio Street Grocery until 1960. She then took a job in nursing at Pleasant Valley Hospital until 1964. That fall she became the Mason County Day Care supervisor for special needs children at the Episcopal Church until 1974 when it was incorporated into the Mason County Schools. Julia was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Leslie Reveal and Lawrence Wright; a daughter, Susan Lynn Reveal Surgoine; a sister, Marie Welch Lewis; and one brother, Samuel Welch.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence E. and Sherry Wright of Point Pleasant; a step-son, Michael E. and Jo Ellen Wright of Frankfort, Ohio; one brother, Arleigh and Faye Welch of Mansfield, Ohio; sisters and brothers-in-law, Richard and Esther McCarley of Columbus, Ohio, Phyllis and Jack Kieffer of Buchtel, Ohio, Wanda Cagg of Nelsonville, Ohio, Richard and Lillian Williams of Logan, Ohio, Patrick and Mary Walsh of Lakeland, Fla., and Daniel and Janet Wright of Berrien Springs, Mich,; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She also is survived by two special friends and wonderful caregivers, Ann Edwards and Carol Greenlee.

Funeral services will be be held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 3, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Rev. Janice Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
