Mason County BOE approves agenda items

POINT PLEASANT — The recent Mason County Board of Education approved numerous personnel recommendations and job postings during its recent meeting. The board also approved payment for several purchased items.

Approvals:

• The board approved the following employments: Bryan Faber, substitute teacher; Anna Hoffman, substitute teacher; Christopher Lyons, Coach, Girls Track, Hannan Jr/Sr High School; Lori Zuspan, Coach, Jr. High Baseball, Wahama Jr/Sr High School; Matt VanMeter, Coach, Volleyball, Wahama Jr/Sr High School; Danita Shaw, Teacher, Homebound; Bryan Faber, Teacher, Alternative Education; Terry Reed, Teacher, Alternative Education; and John Robinson, Teacher, Alternative Education.

• The board approved the following list of volunteers for the remainder of the 2009-2010 school year: Hannan Jr/Sr High School, Alan Camp, Tracy Hudnall and Curtis McConihay, Jr.; New Haven, Paula Gaul, Bryan Hoffman and Stephen Underwood; Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Angela Bartee, Sandra Blake, Connie Loomis, Karen Mattox, Karen Synder and Lorrie Wright; and Wahama Jr/Sr High School, Dorinda Deem.

• The board approved the following out-of-state travel for: Glenn Long and Rita Mae, San Diego, Calif.; Stay Bissell, Judy Browning and Amber Oliver, Chicago, Ill.; and Mason County Gifted students to Cincinnati, Ohio.

• The board approved the following resignations: Mary Wolfe, Head Softball Coach, Wahama Jr. High School; Jill Smith, Head Softball Coach, Wahama Sr. High School; Carla Donohue, LPN/Aide/Bus/Supervisory, Central Office Itinerant, effective March 3; and Charles Hagley, .5 Athletic Director, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, effective June 2010.

• The board approved the following list for medical leave: Scarlett Enos, Beth Kapp and Debra Byus.

• The board approved the continuing contract for Rachel DeHainaut, Teacher, Social Studies, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective for the 2010-2011 school year.

• The board approved to rescind the transfer of Helen Young, Teacher, Grade 1, Ashton Elementary, effective for the remainder of the 2009-2010 school year. Due to changes in enrollment the transfer will be extended for the 2010-2011 school year.

• The board approved Greg Sojka as a driver for the remainder of the 2009-2010 year.

• The board approved the postings of the following professional positions for the 2010-2011 school year: Counselor, Point Pleasant Primary School, K-2, 200 days; Counselor, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, 3-6, 200 days; Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Spanish, 7-12; Teacher, Wahama Jr/Sr High School, Spanish, 7-12; and Assistant Principal, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, 200 days.

• The board approved the posting of the following position of: Occupational Therapist, Central Office Itinerant, 220 days, effective for the 2010-2011 school year. Funding provided by the IDEA and Federal Special Education.

• The board approved the posting of the following service position for the 2010-2011 school year: Aide Special Ed/Bus/Supervisory, Central Office Itinerant.

• The board approved the posting the following supplementary position for the 2010-2011 school year: Coach, Junior High Volleyball, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School.

Finances:

• The board accepted the high bid of $20.10 per bale for hay submitted by Tim Cottrill.

• The board accepted the low submitted bid of $34 per person from Holzer Clinic for bus drivers physicals.

• The board approved the payment of $18,000 to Pro Grass LLC. This is for the “Black Knight” logo in the center of the football field at the Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School Athletic Complex. Funding is providing by the Point Pleasant Athletic Complex committee.

• The board approved the Annual Memorandum of Agreement with the County Extension Service for the 2011 fiscal year in the amount of $20,000. Funding provided by the 2011 Excess Levy collections.

• The board approved the purchase of items for $9,733 from the School Tech Supply for Leon Elementary. The items included 22 laptops with a mobile cart. Funding was provided by the West Virginia Department of Education.

• The board approved to elect bids for the audits of the financial statements for the fiscal years ending June 30, 2010, June 30, 2011, and June 30, 2012 to qualified CPA firms, in addition to the State Auditor’s Office.
