Charges pending in Leon shooting case

LEON — Charges are pending in the shooting incident that recently took place in the Town of Leon.

The shooting happened at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, and resulted in the injury of one man.

Deputies from the Mason County Sheriff’s Department along with troopers of the Mason County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded to the shooting call. The incident took place in the Cain Ridge/Tribble Road area of Leon.

After arriving at the scene, officers found the shooting victim, Michael Lee Ward of Millwood, with shotgun wounds to his right chest area and right hand. Officers determined that the suspect, David E. Maynard, had shot Ward with a 12 gauge shotgun.

According to the sheriff’s department report, the incident occurred over a dispute. The incident is still under investigation.
