GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — Five suspects pled guilty, three cases are still in process and four more suspects have been charged following the recent round of thefts at the Walmart Supercenter in Gallipolis.

The Gallipolis Police Department responded at noon on Feb. 5 to a report that Amber Brumfield, 27, Ashton, W.Va., allegedly attempted to shoplift both men’s and women’s clothing items totaling approximately $60. Brumfield was also charged with criminal trespass stemming from a 2009 theft conviction in which she was ordered to stay out of Walmart.

At 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, police returned to Walmart where they cited both Jessica Blankenship, 20, Gallipolis, and Karla Sexton, 39, Gallipolis, for the alleged theft of $99 worth of DVDs.

On Feb. 6, Kelly D. Huffman, 22, Point Pleasant, W.Va., was cited for allegedly stealing $200 worth of meat, pizza, pop and a go-phone.

Since Feb. 1, the Gallipolis Police Department has cited 12 suspects on shoplifting related charges.

Jill Surbaugh, 49, Crown City, who was cited for shoplifting $100 worth of merchandise, pled guilty and was fined $50 and sentenced to 3 days in jail or 10 days house arrest.

James D. Clark, 25, and Bridget Hunter, 25, both of Point Pleasant, W.Va., each pled guilty to shoplifting approximately $75 worth of merchandise. They were each fined $100 and sentenced to either 3 days in jail or 10 days house arrest.

Brittany Duncan, 22, also of Point Pleasant, pled guilty to shoplifting a wall charger worth approximately $15. Duncan was sentenced to three days in jail or 10 days house arrest and fined $50. Corrina Bryant, 21, Point Pleasant, was charged and pled guilty to complicity. She was sentenced to 3 days in jail or 10 days house arrest and fined $100. The second charge of criminal trespass, stemming from a 2006 petty theft conviction in which Bryant was ordered to stay out of Walmart, is still pending.

The cases against Laurel Henson, 44, Gallipolis, Anthony Ulfves, 21, Crown City, and Alex Lee, 19, Gallipolis, are still pending.
