Accidental shooting results in injury

GALLIPOLIS FERRY — One man was reported injured following a shooting Wednesday in Mason County.

Jack Pickens, Jr., 40, Gallipolis Ferry, was arrested for wanton endangerment following an accidental shooting that occurred at his residence. According to a news release from the Mason County Sheriffs Department, the victim was Pickens’ cousin, Joshua Sprouse, 29, Mineral Wells. The incident happened while both men were outside of the residence because they believed an intruder was on the property.

Sprouse was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. The extent of Sprouse’s injuries were unknown as of press time. Sgt. Greene and Sgt. Fruth are investigating the case.
