LAKIN — A Mason County man arrested during a recent sex offender sweep is now facing federal charges.

West Virginia State Police arrested Sydney Edward “Eddie” Huddleston, 60, Apple Grove, on Tuesday after he led police on a chase. He was transported to Huntington where he was arraigned by a federal judge. He is currently being held in a federal jail in Carter County, Ky. No bond has been set. Huddleston will now appear before the U.S. Attorney.

Huddleston was arrested Jan. 26 on drug charges and firearms charges during a routine sex offender roundup conducted by State Police, Mason County Sheriff’s Department and the United States Marshals Service.

After being transported to the Western Regional Jail, Huddleston made his $100,00 bond and was released. According to Sgt. E.B. Starcher, a federal warrant was then issued for Huddleston, who is a convicted felon.

Other arrests made by State Police included Donald A. Casto, 39, Gallipolis, Ohio. Casto was arrested Feb. 2 by Cpl. C.K. Zerkle for failure to appear. He was transported to the Western Regional Jail with his bond set at $20,000.

Steven L. Libaeratore, 40, of Point Pleasant, was arrested Feb. 2 by Cpl. C.K. Zerkle on charges of harassing phone calls and a home confinement violation. He was transported to a home confinement officer.
