POINT PLEASANT — Point Pleasant City Council held a special meeting Thursday night to discuss a pay/salary ordinance.

According to City Clerk Amber Tatterson, City Attorney R.F. Stein and council discussed an amended draft for the proposed pay/salary ordinance. Council unanimously approved the first reading for creating and enacting article 165 of the codified ordinance of the City of Point Pleasant to fix or cause to be fixed the salary or compensation of every municipal officer and employee. The motion to approve the amendment was made by Councilwoman Linda Smith, seconded by Councilman James Bowles and passed 8-0.

Tatterson emphasized that employees are not receiving a pay raise of any kind. According to Tatterson, the ordinance shows a pay scale for every employee category, which means that one type of employee can only make up to a certain amount of money.

“There are absolutely no increases. The ordinance is showing what a municipal officer and employee makes — it outlines what an employee can make here,” Tatterson said. “Council just fixed an ordinance.”

All council members with the exception of Robert Doeffinger were present for the meeting. The council went into executive session for more than an hour to discuss the matter.

The next regularly scheduled council meeting is slated for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8.
