LAKIN — Sargeant E.B. Starcher of the West Virginia State Police recently presented a check to Lori Nohe, Warden of the Lakin Correctional Center, on behalf of The Knights of Columbus/Father Jessing Council, of which he is a member.

The K.I.D.S. Program, Keeping Infant Development Successful, allows inmates who are expecting to keep their infants with them for an 18-month period. The goal of this program is to provide inmates with the opportunity to establish loving bonds with their babies, as well as to help the women make successful transitions back into society, with their babies, and hopefully reduce recidivism.

Additional donations are appreciated by the facility and program. To make a monetary donation, contact Nohe at the Lakin Correction Facility at 304-674-2440.

Lakin is a minimum security facility and West Virginia’s only all-female institution.

There is a prison in another count that successfully has a program like this. It is a much smaller prison than Lakin but it works well there.
