POINT PLEASANT — It is once again time for the Mason County Family Christmas.
The Family Resource Network along with other community agencies and individuals will present the Mason County Family Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 12. The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will take place at the former Central Elementary School gymnasium, located at 1200 Main St. in Point Pleasant.
According to Greg Fowler, Family Resource Network director, the Mason County Family Christmas serves as a way to help youth who may not receive many Christmas presents. The event has been held each year since the early 1990s.
“We started doing (the family Christmas) so that youth in the area would have an activity to benefit them in the holiday season,” Fowler said.
There are several activities planned for the event including Christmas crafts, face painting and refreshments. In addition, representatives from Ty Somerville’s State Farm Insurance Agency will donate their cameras, film and time to take pictures of every child in attendance with Santa Claus. Picture frames will be provided for children to decorate. Community organization volunteers also will have several craft tables set up where children can make items to give to their parents as gifts or to decorate their Christmas trees.
Miss West Virginia 2009, Talia Markham, will be in attendance as well.
“The Mason County Family Christmas is about the community pulling together to provide a good holiday experience for local children and their families,” Fowler said. “Over the past few years, we have created an atmosphere where parents can bring their children and enjoy the event. The event has grown each year and we expect that to be the case again this year. We are extremely happy to have Miss West Virginia, Talia Markham attending.”
The family Christmas event is free and open to the public.
