Rita “Gerry” Rogers, 75 of Kettering, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2009, at the Hospice of Dayton Care Center.

Gerry was born September 25, 1934, in Southside to Francis Madison and Florence Lena (McComb) Bowles.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard; daughter, DeAnn Hurtado and her husband, Mike of Centerville, Ohio; son, Paul and his wife, Jeana of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Michael & Matthew Hurtado, and Katie, Emily & Jacob Rogers; and her brother, Manford Bowles and his wife, Nina of Southside.

Gerry was a graduate of Marshall University and taught first grade in the public schools systems of North Carolins, West Virginia, and Indiana for ten years. She was a former member of Far Hills Baptist Church where she taught adult education, the adult singles, sang in the choir, was in charge of the nursery, and was a leader in the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union. She also taught the first graders at Edgewood Baptist Center .

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009, at the Centerville Community Church, 10688 Dayton/Lebanon Pike, Centerville, OH 45458, with Pastor David Presher officiating.
