Over the years, McDonald’s and its customers from around the world have raised over $150 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities and other children’s causes through various fundraising initiatives. Tri-State area McDonald’s restaurants locally support the houses in Charleston and Huntington.
“McDonald’s restaurants throughout the area proudly support McHappy Day and we encourage our communities to join us,” said Kevin Thompson, Lavalette McDonald’s owner/operator. “With the help and generosity of our neighbors, employees and customers, we can continue to make a difference for the children and families in our area who rely on our two local houses for a home away from home.”
Through November 20, residents in the Tri-State and throughout the U.S. can show their support for RMHC through the “Give A Hand®” fundraiser when they purchase a colorful paper Hand in-restaurant. The paper Hands are sold for $1 each and contain educational messages about the Charity, with proceeds benefitting RMHC and the Charleston and Huntington houses. Hands will be displayed at participating restaurants throughout November, allowing residents in the each community to display their commitment to children in need. In addition, on November 20, participating McDonald’s restaurants throughout the U.S. will donate $1 from the sale of select menu items to RMHC.
McDonald’s encourages consumers to show support online. Consumers can download the “Give A Hand for Ronald McDonald House Charities” online application to their Facebook page to pledge their support to RMHC. Through the application, consumers can find information on how to donate to RMHC and share virtual Hands with friends and family to raise awareness for the Charity. In addition, in honor of McHappy Day and the 35th Anniversary of the first Ronald McDonald House, McDonald’s will donate $1 for each Hand shared, up to $35,000. Consumers can also show their support for McHappy Day on Twitter by following tweets posted by @McDonalds and @RMHC and by using the hashtag “#McHappyDay” in their Tweets.
