POINT PLEASANT — It is once again time for jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, goblins and of course, candy.

With Halloween right around the corner, plans also are underway for the annual Halloween Block Party at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park. This year’s party is slated for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.

According to Denise Scarberry, event organizer, the block party is currently in need of volunteers to help work and host the event.

“To make (the block party) a memorable night we are asking the community for help,” Scarberry said, adding that students can receive community service hours for volunteering at the event.

In addition, those who are unable to volunteer can give monetary donations as well as donate candy to the event. Scarberry credited area businesses and individuals for helping make the block party the success that it is each year. She emphasized that all donations, regardless of size or amount, are appreciated.

“If every home in the community gave $1 — that would make the block party a great event,” she said.

Activities on tap for this year’s block party include games, karaoke, inflatables and haunted hayrides. There also will be a costume judging contest. Free food of hot dogs, pop and candy will be available as well. In addition, donations of dog and cat food, which will go toward the area animal shelters, will be collected during the event.

Scarberry described the Halloween Block Party as an event for all ages that the entire family can enjoy.

“(The block party) is a free event for the community. It is just for two hours, but a lot of people come,” Scarberry said. “There are a lot of children that don’t get to go to any thing like this.”
