POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that the body of a Point Pleasant man missing for more than a week has been discovered.
Mason County Sheriff David Anthony said the body of Charles Ray “Bubby” Denny was recovered late Monday night from an accident scene along Ripley Road. The sheriff said a child found Denny’s Ford Explorer at the bottom of an embankment.
Anthony said it appeared that the 31-year old Denny died as a result of the alleged single-vehicle accident; however, that information could not be confirmed.
Denny’s body has been released to the state medical examiner’s office in Charleston. The exact cause of death won’t be known until after the medical examiner’s office completes its investigation.
According to Deputy D.A. Pearson, the search for Denny became a top priority for the sheriff’s department, Point Pleasant Fire Department and other local emergency workers following his sudden disappearance on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Denny’s sister April L. McCoy first reported him missing after they were abruptly cut off during a phone conversation late that night. The family said it was unlike Denny to just disappear.
Denny, a resident of Point Pleasant, was a native of Gallia County, Ohio. He was employed as a deckhand for American Electric Power.
