My sister Helen just reminded me this was the Saturday before a grievous next Saturday, Oct. 3, it would be the sad day they sell off at public auction, the old Point Pleasant High School; nostalgia memories to thousands of Mason County graduates.
An ending era in thousands of past individuals’ attainment; an educational landmark gone for many an elderly citizen. Grievous to me personally was when not a single past student followed suit and wrote a letter to the Point Pleasant Register asking that the memorable school of higher learning be spared the auctioneer’s gavel.
The old educational edifice could well have served many Mason County purposes. A place for citizen gatherings; as now the only available place is the new auditorium in the junior and senior high school. Perhaps a museum of county antiquity. It would have been an ideal site for elder residents assisted living facilities.
One room is large enough to encompass a complete apartment for a family.
With a large kitchen nearby, a ready dining room site and a functional sprinkler system already in place, a utopia idea awaits only a farsighted developer, wish them luck.
I hope the old edifice isn’t torn down and replaced by a dollar store.
