POINT PLEASANT — This weekend, 82 contestants, ranging in age from two years old to married women, will make their way to the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park Stage with hopes of walking away with the 2009 Miss Mothman Festival titles.

Delyssa Huffman, pageant director, is very excited about this year’s turnout.

“We have such a huge response for the pageant. This year, we have contestants from all over West Virginia, parts of Ohio and Kentucky and even a few from Pennsylvania and Maryland,” Huffman said. “The pageant Web site has really grabbed the attention from girls and women who want to reign over the Mothman Festival.”

On Friday, the Teen Miss, Miss, Ms. and Mrs. contestants will be the first 2009 Royalty crowned. Giving up the very first titles are Regan Cottrill, Devin Cottrill, Rebecca Cline and Kiley Lanham. All four queens will be on hand to help with the pageant and crown their successors.

Six of the nine titles given will be awarded during Friday’s pageant at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park starting at 6 p.m. They include Teen Miss Mothman Festival Princess, Teen Miss Mothman Festival Queen, Miss Mothman Festival Princess, Miss Mothman Festival Queen, Ms. Mothman Festival Queen and Mrs. Mothman Festival Queen.

The children’s pageant will take place at the Riverfront Park, Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. The 2009 Tiny Miss Mothman Festival Queen, Little Miss Mothman Festival Queen and Junior Miss Mothman Festival Queen will be crowned by the very first royalty. They include Adrianne Sayre, Kelci Lockhart and Darian Miller.

Besides princess and queen titles, additional awards will be given out each night. Optional awards for all divisions during Saturday’s pageant include Best Dressed Street Wear, Best Dressed Evening Wear and Best Interview. A Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality also will be recognized along with the runner-ups in each age division.

Saturday morning will be a day full of princesses. Each contestant will be crowned a Miss Mothman Festival Princess, receiving their own tiara and sash. Optional awards given in the three age divisions will be Prettiest Eyes, Prettiest Hair, Prettiest Smile, Best Dressed and Best Personality. Runner’s up will also be awarded.

Huffman said that this year’s prize packages are bigger and better thanks to the sponsors who have supported the pageant since its inaugural year.
