NEW HAVEN — The Mason County Community Foundation recently awarded the New Haven and Community Volunteer Fire Department a $2,000 grant.

The grant was given to purchase equipment to outfit a new water rescue boat, which includes safety and communications equipment.

The MCCF is a collection of charitable funds created by people in the community to benefit ongoing charitable needs in the area. Most of the foundation’s funds are endowment funds, which means the Foundation uses the earnings to support charitable causes, much like the New Haven Fire Department.

The Foundation awards grants twice a year, in the spring and fall. This past year, the MCCF awarded about $300,000 overall in competitive grants.
