POINT PLEASANT — County Administrator, John Gerlach, reported that reconstruction of the Mason County Courthouse steps is “doing fine.”
“This project was estimated to be finished in 60 days,” Gerlach said, “but the workers have done so much in the last two weeks that I believe we are ahead of schedule.”
If weather is permitting, then workers will pour concrete for the new steps tomorrow. The budget for rebuilding of the courthouse steps is also under adjustment.
Gerlach stated that the underlayment concrete is good and that by keeping it, money will be deducted from the originial contract price. Sandstone also been picked to match and broken pieces of the steps will be replaced. This entire project to replace the steps is being funded through a court facilities grant of $80,000.
The closing of the front entrance to the courthouse occured on the evening of Aug. 10. The Grae-Co Construction, Inc from Marietta, Ohio are rebuilding the new steps that Gerlach says will be “much safer” than the old steps that were a hazard to those who used them.
