POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant Athletic Complex continues to make headlines as it nears completion.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Mason County Convention and Visitors Bureau encouraged everyone to be part of this “monument."

Denny Bellamy, CVB chairman, discussed the entrance with the bricks. So far, 300 bricks have been sold and will be displayed on one side of the castle entrance for the first ballgame. A mere 250 bricks remain to be purchased.

“Local businesses should put their names on these bricks.” Bellamy said. “The stadium will be there for generations and if you have supported the band and teams through the years, then take the opportunity to put your name on something.”

Those that have already purchased bricks will see them at the first ballgame. Those that plan to purchase a brick will be able to see it during the second home ballgame against Wayne. Bricks are $100.00 each. Forms to purchase bricks are available at the tourism center.

It also was reported that the Athletic Complex does not have a name and naming rights are still available for a quarter of a million dollars. Also, one million dollars is still needed to completely finish the complex. Amenities for fans are limited at this time. A band concession stand, restrooms and locker rooms still need to be constructed.

• It was reported that the Mothman Festival is the “next big event” taking place in Point Pleasant and is slated for September 19th and 20th. Organizer Carolyn Harris was in attendance to discuss TNT hayride tours and bands that will play during the festival. It also was reported that the 2nd Annual Miss Mothman Festival Pageants will take place September 18th and 19th, with the very first Pretty Baby Contest held September 17th. AJ Productions will be filming and photographing the pageant and Jesse Crawford, WBYG Colgate Country Showdown Winner, will perform during Friday night’s pageant.

In other business:

• Roger Clark, CVB treasurer, presented a treasurer’s report.

• Bellamy, along with all members, thanked the County Commission and Bob Baird for the $5,000.00 donation to CVB.

• Bellamy reported that the next Quilt Square dedication will take place on a Cottrill Farm, on Rt. 62.

• Baird, along with all members, reported that the Belle of Cincinnati was a great success and that it sold out with more than four hundred people taking the river cruise.

• Nancy Mayes of the Mason County Performing Arts reported that the community theatre met Tuesday and have decided to go ahead with a play scheduled at the fort after or during Battle Days. Date and time is to be announced.

• Carolyn Harris reported that the Krodel Shelter Decorating Contest during the Christmas light show will be open to those on a first come, first serve basis. Details are still being worked out, but prizes will be awarded. She encouraged women’s clubs and 4-H groups to take part in this event.
