POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Sheriff’s Department recently seized more than 20 marijuana plants.
On Wednesday deputies Cpl. Billy Gritt and Cpl. Eric Lynch responded to a 911 call. According to a news release from the sheriff’s department, the call was in reference to a well being check at the resident of Kenneth E. Large, located at 1313 Pleasant Ridge Road.
When officers arrived to check on Large they found 27 marijuana plants growing beside his residence. According to the U.S. Department of Justice National Illicit Drug Prices Intelligence Bulletin, the plants have a mature value of $540,000.
Large was arrested on a felony and taken to the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville awaiting arraignment.
The sheriff’s department also performed a drug sweep on Saturday, June 13, and approximately $2,500 in drugs were seized. Cpl. Andy Varian, Deputy Terry Powell and Deputy Robert Glenn made the drug sweep and arrested Amy Jo Smith, Mary Francis Evans and Arthur Petrie, all of Point Pleasant.
Smith was arrested for a capias warrant, while Evans was arrested for possession of heroin and received two fugitive warrants from Gallia and Lawrence County, Ohio. Petrie was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver felony in Point Pleasant.
