Tri-County Jr. Golf Tour
POINT PLEASANT — Rain and other factors caused a delay, but the 28th year of the Tri-County Junior Golf Tour is now ready to tee-off.
This 2009 season will get under way on Monday, June 22, at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Point Pleasant. On Monday, June 29, the young linksters assemble at Pine Hills Golf Course in Pomeroy for the second nine-hole round. Then, on Tuesday, July 7, actions shifts to Cliffside Course in Gallipolis for round three. The final regular season point-earning round will be Monday, July 13 at Riverside Golf Course in Mason.
Finally, the annual round-up fun day moves back to Hidden Valley on Monday, July 20. This round is played with handicaps, has the awards for presentations, prizes, and food for the 2009 finale.
All area youth are invited to participate in any, or all, outings. Cost is $10 each session. This pays for grass fees, lunch, and awards.
Each round is nine holes, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration begins around 8:15 a.m. each day of play, with pairings made for age groups to tee off at the 9 a.m. time.
Age groups list ten-and-under, 11-12 years of age, 13-14 years of age, and the premier 15-17 division. Age of golfer on July 13 (last day of point play) determines the division in which the player must compete.
Points are awarded each week in each age group to those competing. First place (weekly) finisher gains 10, runner up gets eight, third place receives six, fourth place earns four, and two points go to all the other players in the bracket. Total points after four rounds determines the 2009 champs in each division.
It has been a great learning experience for the multitude of players over these years. Many friendships have developed along with memories and fun, and this year’s tour should be no different. Join in and share it all, players and fans.
